There is nothing like an actor stepping away from their traditional roles to play a completely against-type character, so judging from a newly released extended clip, Logan Lucky is going to be quite the treat.
The heist film comes from the director behind the Oceans series and Magic Mike, Steven Soderbergh. He has rounded up a star-studded lineup of actors that are typically considered for more dramatic roles, including Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough, Hilary Swank and Katie Holmes, for what looks like an outrageous comedic take on the genre.
Most notably out of his element is James Bond himself, Mr. Daniel Craig, who has ditched his usually polished persona for a striped jumpsuit, bleach-blonde hair and an absurd Southern accent to take on the character of Joe Bang. In the new teaser clip, Bang weighs the pros and cons of helping Tatum and Driver’s characters with their proposed robbery at the Coca-Cola 600 race.
Based on the scene, it seems Soderbergh is straddling a line between serious and ridiculous, but if anyone is capable of pulling that off, he is.
Logan Lucky hits theater on Aug. 18. Watch the teaser clip above, and revisit the film’s first trailer here.
