Watch the First Trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s New Film Logan Lucky

Steven Soderbergh—the acclaimed director of films like the Ocean’s series, Erin Brockovich and Magic Mike—is back with another heist film, and it looks incredible. Showcasing Soderbergh’s uncanny ability to attract an overwhelming amount of high-level talent, Logan Lucky is stuffed with fantastic actors. The film stars Channing Tatum and Adam Driver with a prosthetic arm, but the cast also includes Hilary Swank, Katie Holmes, Seth McFarlane, Alien: Covenant’s Katherine Waterson and Daniel Craig sporting the most ridiculous Southern accent. That’s some serious star power, and Soderbergh looks like he’ll employ their substantial talents to decidedly hilarious results. Time will only tell if they all end up regretting the decision.

The overall vibe of the trailer could be Ocean’s 11 but with good ol’ boys. According to the official website, the plot revolves around two brothers trying to reverse a family curse by performing “an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.” It’s not clear how stealing a bunch of money would reverse a curse exactly, but we’re sure the attempt will be fun to watch regardless. The film looks to have all of the trademark humor and rapid-fire wit of Soderbergh’s previous heist series, but delivered with country accents. Instead of suave, professional criminals, we see former construction workers and several characters living in trailers.

The most apparent takeaway from the hilarious trailer is just how much fun it looks. Most of the cast could be considered “serious” actors based on their usual bodies of work, but they all appear surprisingly committed to their crazy, against-type roles. Craig’s Joe Bang is clearly the stand-out of the trailer with his ridiculous accent and bleach-blonde hair. The movie may be worth watching solely for the mind-melting insanity of seeing James Bond as a low-level Southern criminal.
