It‘s Jaeden Martell Strikes It Rich in A24’s First Low Tide Trailer

A24 shared the first trailer for their forthcoming crime-drama Low Tide on Thursday, offering us a look at the debut feature film from writer-director Kevin McMullin.

It’s Jaeden Martell (fka Jaeden Lieberher) and Alita: Battle Angel’s Keean Johnson star as Peter and Alan, respectively, rebellious brothers who, while searching an abandoned building for loot, discover a cache of valuable gold coins. They opt to keep the score a secret from intimidating ringleader Red (Alex Neustaedter) and the rest of their crew, not to mention their police office father (Shea Whigham) and the apple of Alan’s eye (Kristine Froseth), but the situation starts to go sideways when Smitty (Daniel Zolghadri) catches wind of the brothers’ find and threatens to tell Red all about it. “We need to stand up to him,” Peter insists, setting the stage for an intense showdown between the gold-striking brothers and their dangerous associate.

“You like comics? This is your origin story. Are you gonna grow up to be the good guy, or the bad guy?” Whigham’s character asks Alan. Only one way to find out, filmgoers.

McMullin made his feature debut on a shoestring budget, shooting on the beaches and boardwalks of Point Pleasant Beach, just outside his hometown of Holmdel, N.J., so as to evoke his Jersey Shore childhood.

Low Tide premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in late April, and will be distributed by A24 and DirecTV, streaming exclusively on DirecTV Cinema starting Sept. 5 before opening in select theaters on Oct. 4.
