New on Netflix: All the Movies and TV Coming in March

Netflix’s monthly slates of movie, TV and comedy additions, much like pizza or sex, are always pretty good, even when they’re not. March is shaping up to be a relatively quiet month on the leading streamer, but never fear: Your good pals at Paste are here to point out the incoming must-sees.

Stuff your Marvel Cinematic Universe in a sack and give Marty Scorsese his due this March: The legendary director’s Oscar-winning 1990 crime epic Goodfellas (March 1) comes to Netflix on the first of the month, as do most of the month’s most noteworthy film additions. Though there’s far more to Scorsese’s oeuvre than mob movies, this one—starring Ray Liotta as Irish gangster Henry Hill, Lorraine Bracco as his wife Karen Hill, and Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci (whose outstanding performance earned the film its statuette) and Paul Sorvino as Henry’s Italian mob associates—may be the best he ever made. Other cinematic standouts on tap for March 1 include Paul Thomas Anderson’s Daniel Day-Lewis-starring masterwork There Will Be Blood, a very different Scorsese film in Oscar-winning family drama Hugo, beloved Stephen King adaptation The Shawshank Redemption, Steven Soderberg’s Gina Carano-starring 2011 action-thriller Haywire, Al Pacino/Johnny Depp crime epic Donnie Brasco, Tim Burton’s 2005 stop-motion romance Corpse Bride, iconic ‘90s live-action/cartoon hybrid Space Jam, Joel Edgerton’s underrated 2015 thriller The Gift, Seth Rogen and James Franco’s controversial North Korea comedy The Interview, rare Steven Spielberg misfire Hook, Will Ferrell basketball comedy Semi-Pro, and a pair of Resident Evil titles (2004’s Apocalypse and 2007’s Extinction), to name a few. To follow later in the month are Terrence Malick-executive-produced hip-hop documentary Lil Peep: Everybody’s Everything (March 4), Netflix original Mark Wahlberg/Winston Duke actioner Spenser Confidential (March 6), Netflix original Amy Ryan/Gabriel Byrne drama Lost Girls (March 13), David O. Russell’s Oscar-winning Bradley Cooper/Jennifer Lawrence romantic dramedy Silver Linings Playbook (March 16), star-studded MI6 spy drama Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (March 16), Netflix’s original Joe Exotic documentary Tiger King (March 20) and Brad Pitt-starring 2012 crime thriller Killing Them Softly (March 27), among others.

There are plenty of reasons for excitement on the TV and comedy end of the equation as well, beginning with the March 5 debut of one of Paste’s most-anticipated shows of the year: Castlevania Season 3. Paste’s own Jim Vorel has argued that the animated series adaptation of Konami’s long-running videogame franchise became the best videogame adaptation of all time in its second season, so the sky’s the limit for Season 3, in which “Belmont and Sypha settle into a village with sinister secrets, Alucard mentors a pair of admirers and Isaac embarks on a quest to locate Hector,” per Netflix. The next day, March 6, serves up the second season of Ugly Delicious, the hit food docuseries from James Beard Award-winning Chef David Chang and Academy Award winner Morgan Neville—guests set to chow down with Chef Chang in Season 2 include Nick Kroll, Aziz Ansari, Padma Lakshmi, food writers Helen Rosner and Chris Ying, Danny McBride, Bill Simmons and Dave Choe. Marc Maron’s latest Netflix stand-up comedy special End Times Fun debuts on March 10, with Season 2 of Oscar winner Alex Gibney’s financial malfeasance docuseries Dirty Money and Season 3 of inner-city coming-of-age comedy On My Block on March 11. The third and second seasons of Spanish teen drama series Elite and Korean zombie period drama Kingdom, respectively, arrive on March 13, while March 17 brings new Bert Kreischer stand-up special Hey Big Boy, Season 3 of The CW superhero series Black Lightning and the debut of Aardman animated series Shaun the Sheep: Adventures from Mossy Bottom. Dai Sato’s (of Cowboy Bebop fame) Altered Carbon anime series, Altered Carbon: Resleeved, premieres on March 19, as does Mae Martin-starring dramedy Feel Good, and family fantasy series The Letter for the King and Octavia Spencer-starring C.J. Walker limited series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker come to Netflix a day later on March 20. Anime fans will want to mark March 23, the premiere date of Sol Levante—Netflix describes the title as “an experimental project between Netflix and Production I.G, one of the leading anime production companies in Japan, to produce the world’s first 4K HDR native hand-drawn anime short.” The month winds down with the debut of part-Yiddish drama series Unorthodox on March 26 and the third season of Emmy-winning Jason Bateman/Laura Linney crime-drama series Ozark on March 27.

It’s our solemn duty to inform you Netflix is losing some heavy-hitters next month, as well: Marvel Studios’ Black Panther (March 3), Blue Jasmine (March 7), The Waterboy (March 7), Men in Black and Men in Black II (March 14), Coraline (March 15), The L Word: Season 1-6 (March 19), Zodiac (March 19) and Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time (March 24) are exiting relatively soon, while you have until the end of the month, March 30, to catch The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Paranormal Activity, Small Soldiers and Wild Wild West, among others.
