Netflix in Talks for Jared Leto Crime Thriller The Outsider

Movies News Netflix

If it wasn’t clear already, Netflix is in the content business. The streaming service has produced dozens of award-winning television shows, and they’ve also acquired the rights to several high-profile films, including Beasts of No Nation and Ava DuVernay’s 13th. Now, Netlfix is in talks to acquire a crime-thriller called The Outsider starring Jared Leto, as reported by Variety.

The Outsider follows a U.S. army deserter who joins the Yakuza while living in post-World War II Japan. The Oscar-winning Leto is undoubtedly the film’s biggest draw, but the supporting cast also includes Rory Cochrane (Black Mass) and Tadanobu Asano (Thor).

Directed by Martin Zandvliet, The Outsider will be his follow-up to Land of Mine, which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival and was eventually picked up by Sony Picture Classics. Andrew Baldwin wrote the screenplay for the film, which is currently shooting in Tokyo.

Leto will next appear alongside Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to the 1981 classic. Although the deal with Netflix isn’t final, The Outsider looks to be yet another big acquisition for the studio.
