Netflix’s new film Wheelman is screeching away from the starting line with an adrenaline shot of a first teaser, released by the streamer today. Frank Grillo (Captain America: Civil War) stars as the eponymous getaway driver, who is thrust into a high-stakes race to survive after an attempted bank robbery goes sideways. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the wheelman has to think fast and drive faster if he’s going to figure out who double-crossed him. Wheelman doesn’t figure to reinvent the wheel (sorry), but it does have the makings of a rock-solid action flick, especially with the gritty Grillo in the driver’s seat.
Wheelman also stars Garret Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave) as a (likely antagonistic) character named Clayton and Caitlin Carmichael (300: Rise of an Empire) as the wheelman’s 13-year-old daughter. The film was written and directed by the largely unproven Jeremy Rush, whose most recent directorial outing was the post-apocalyptic short film No Road to Follow in 2011. Grillo, Joe Carnahan (The Grey) and The Solution Group’s Myles Nestel (The November Man)—a group that has action-film experience to spare—serve as producers, while J. Todd Harris, Chady Mattar and Scott Silver are the film’s executive producers.
Wheelman premieres on Netflix on Oct. 20. Watch the first teaser above.
