New on Netflix: All the Movies and TV Coming in April

As Netflix continues to expand, encompassing a larger and larger cross-section of pop culture as we know it, we’ll continue to document that expansion until we, too, are assimilated. You’ll find our breakdown of the streaming service’s impending movie and TV additions below, so get your eyes on it—they’ll thank you for it, trust us.

Netflix has reeled in an impressive slate of feature films for April, with iconic ‘80s gangster epic Scarface leading the way. The intoxicatingly over-the-top, endlessly quotable, Brian De Palma-directed, Oliver Stone-penned remake of Howard Hawks’ 1932 original stars Al Pacino as Cuban refugee-turned-cocaine kingpin Tony Montana, who introduced the world to his “little friend” back in 1983 and has been an inescapable pop-culture figure ever since. The iconic film is compulsively watchable in spite of its faults, a violent and stylish crime classic that you would do well to watch before it gets remade yet again. Scarface arrives on April 1, as do a host of other noteworthy films, including underrated romantic comedy Along Came Polly, Michael Bay’s Will Smith-starring buddy-cop comedy Bad Boys, Ridley Scott’s Leonardo DiCaprio-led 2008 thriller Body of Lies, Oscar-winning Civil War epic Cold Mountain, 2004’s beloved Friday Night Lights adaptation, Roberto Benigni’s Oscar-winning 1997 Holocaust drama Life is Beautiful, mid-’90s videogame adaptation Mortal Kombat, Disney blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Oscar-nominated serial killer thriller Se7en, hyper-stylized and hyper-violent Frank Miller adaptation Sin City, the Wachowskis’ eye-popping live-action take on Speed Racer, beloved animated feature The Iron Giant and cult-classic late-’80s vampire flick The Lost Boys. And remember, those are just the movies hitting Netflix on the first—later in the month, the streamer is adding animated franchise entry Despicable Me 3 on April 5, original drama 6 Balloons (starring Dave Franco and Abbie Jacobson) on April 6, original drama Kodachrome (starring Ed Harris and Jason Sudeikis) on April 20, original comedy The Week Of (starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock) on April 27, and plenty more.

Netflix’s incoming TV offerings are worth getting excited about as well, with April’s biggest addition being the streamer’s big-budget reimagining of classic sci-fi series Lost in Space, set to debut on April 13. “Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world,” reads the show’s synopsis. “But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, lightyears from their original destination.” Netflix’s Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens (Black Sails, Die Another Day) and Molly Parker (House of Cards, Deadwood) as John and Maureen Robinson, with Taylor Russell (Falling Skies), Mina Sundwall (Maggie’s Plan, Freeheld) and Max Jenkins (Sense8, Betrayal) as their children, Judy, Penny and Will, respectively, while Parker Posey (Café Society, Mascots, A Mighty Wind) and Ignacio Serricchio (Bones, The Wedding Ringer) play a pair of outsiders stranded alongside the Robinson clan. Elsewhere in television, Netflix is adding more new episodes of The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale, with new episodes streaming each Sunday starting on April 1, as well as the latest episode of prestige talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman with special guest Jay Z (April 6), the debut seasons of Fastest Car (April 6), Troy: Fall of a City (April 6), The Chalet (April 17) and The Letdown (April 21), the second seasons of The Magic School Bus Rides Again (April 13), Dope (April 20, naturally) and 3% (April 27), and season four of The CW’s romantic dramedy series Jane The Virgin, streaming sometime in April.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, and it brings us no joy to tell you that there are titles leaving Netflix next month, as well. The departures that will hurt the most include a pair of Ace Ventura flicks and four Batman movies—including Batman, Batman & Robin, Batman Forever and Batman Returns—as well as iconic golf comedy Caddyshack, family classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, uproarious stand-up special John Mulaney: New in Town and must-see Stephen King adaptation The Shawshank Redemption, all of which leave Netflix on April 1. Also vanishing from the service later in the month are Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending The Prestige (April 21), Oscar-nominated Banksy documentary Exit through the Gift Shop (April 22) and animated martial-arts adventure Kung Fu Panda 3 (April 26).
