Milla Jovovich Joins Emma Roberts, Jeremy Irvine, More in Sci-Fi Thriller Paradise Hills

Resident Evil heroine and franchise star Milla Jovovich has joined the already-stacked cast of the forthcoming sci-fi thriller Paradise Hills, from first-time director Alice Waddington. The current cast includes Emma Roberts as the lead, along with Jeremy Irvine, Alfie Allen, Awkwafina, Danielle Macdonald and Eiza Gonzalez, according to Deadline.

The film, set in a not-too-distant future, stars Roberts as Uma, the daughter of a very wealthy businessman who commits suicide after his company faces a hostile takeover from a billionaire named Son Prescott. Prescott decides he will marry Uma, but only after he sends her to Paradise Hills, a private sanitarium where only the wealthiest families send their children to be reformed. Prescott plans to destroy Uma’s mind, but when she awakens to find herself there, she meets Amarna (Gonzalez), who may be her only hope of escaping Paradise Hills.

Nacho Vigalondo, writer and director of the Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis starrer Colossal, wrote the film alongside Brian Deleeuw, based off an original story by Waddington. Adrián Guerra and Nuria Valls are producing the project via Nostromo Pictures.

Jovovich’s career spans nearly three decades, starting with her early work as a model in the late ‘80s. She is known for appearing in a wide range of films outside of the Resident Evil franchise, including Dazed and Confused, The Fifth Element and Zoolander.

Roberts is best known for her work in American Horror Story, We’re the Millers and Scream Queens, just to name a few. Irvine made his feature film debut in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, is known for his work in the 2012 adaptation of Great Expectations with Ralph Fiennes and can be seen in the forthcoming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, out this summer. Allen is best known for his role as Theon Greyjoy in the award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones. Awkwafina is a New York-based rapper who recently stepped into acting and can be seen in the forthcoming Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians adaptation. Macdonald made headlines with her breakthrough performance in last year’s Sundance favorite Patti Cake$. Gonzalez is just coming off a breakthrough year after starring in Baby Driver with Ansel Elgort.

Irvine recently posted to Instagram a picture of him with a few of his fellow cast mates enjoying their time in Barcelona, where the film is currently shooting.
