Paul McCartney Will Appear in the New Pirates of the Caribbean Movie

Movies News Paul McCartney

Shooting may have officially wrapped on the fifth installment of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, but Beatles legend Paul McCartney has just been added to the cast, according to Deadline.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has a handful of new characters, as well as several major returning ones, but McCartney’s casting is easily the most unusual. The studio isn’t sharing many details about the singer’s role, but we do know that his addition won’t require re-shoots. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg are simply adding an extra scene for McCartney’s presence in the film. Since the film isn’t being released until May 26, 2017, there is apparently enough time to add whatever they have planned.

This marks the second major rock legend the franchise has roped in. The first of which was Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who Pirates star Johnny Depp based the mannerisms of his iconic character Captain Jack Sparrow on. Richards appeared in On Stranger Tides as Sparrow’s father Captain Teague.

McCartney’s previous acting experience is minimal. The singer and songwriter is probably best known for his roles playing himself in the 1960s films A Hard Day’s Night and Help!. So it should be interesting to see him in the movie, at the very least for how the film chooses to ingrain McCartney in its larger plot. Not many would consider McCartney “pirate” material, given his interest in peace and vegetarianism, but the film may use that to create an interesting, if not humorous, cameo.
