The Roles of a Lifetime: Robert Duvall

Some movie stars are like the baseball fan who snags a fly ball in the bleachers (“Sign that kid up!”); others toil in the farm league for years before they’re called up. When Robert Duvall landed the critical role of Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird, he’d already had nearly a dozen bit parts in TV series like Route 66, and he continued his TV work through the 1960s, even as his career was heating up with roles in seminal films like True Grit and MASH. The hard-working actor, who went on to win multiple awards, including an Oscar for Tender Mercies, has been knocking them out of the park for more than 50 years.
