New on Showtime: All the Movies and TV Coming in July

As we head into the dog days of summer, Showtime is stepping up their movie collection to include the kinds of films that make you want to stay in. Horror and throwbacks abound, meaning it’s time to curl up next to a loved one or a perfectly buttered bowl of popcorn (or both) and binge away.

That said, their original TV programming is on the lighter side, with just new episodes of The Affair, I’m Dying Up Here, and Our Cartoon President on the docket. No series premieres or finales here, just the network’s acclaimed fare to sustain viewers through hiatus season. As The Affair chugs along with its fourth season, Golden Globe and Emmy-winning performances from Maura Tierney and Ruth Wilson keep this contemplative drama moving. On the comedy front, I’m Dying Up Here and Our Cartoon President keeps things retro and all-too-current—if the recent SCOTUS news has you in a tizzy, maybe you’ll find the world is easier to process in cartoon form.

Movies-wise, things are a touch more fun and diverse. Classics like Braveheart, Jurassic Park (the entire original trilogy, in fact), and Steel Magnolias bring something for every movie fan. Horror greats give you an excuse to curl up on the couch and scream along to modern and old-school greats like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Halloween II. Perhaps the most exciting addition to the movie lineup overall is last year’s Edgar Wright romp Baby Driver, in which a surprisingly charming, tinnitus-suffering Ansel Elgort plays a tune-obsessed getaway driver caught up with a dangerous gang led (unfortunately) by Kevin Spacey, whose henchpeople include Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, and Eiza González. Also, if you’re not convinced that Lily James is the ideal cinematic girlfriend, this film will convince you—the British actress gives a down-home performance that’s sweeter than pecan pie.

If you just can’t decide what to watch, head on down to Showtime’s streaming collections, where the fare ranges from war stories to some real ‘80s gems (Drugstore Cowboy, anyone?). Of course, you could also always just give into your baser instincts and watch Lindsay Lohan opus Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
