July may be a month meant for backyard barbecues, patriotic firework shows, and drinking copious amounts of sweet tea and lemonade, but if you’d rather opt for sitting on the couch and avoiding weird tan lines, July can also be a month for streaming. To help you out a bit, here’s everything new coming to (and leaving) Starz in July.
The very first day of July brings us a few modern classics. There’s the 2001 romantic drama A Beautiful Mind, which introduced us to the real-life story of math genius John F. Nash Jr. (as played by Russell Crowe) as he wrestles with schizophrenia. There’s also the beloved show full of frolicking puppets, The Muppets, the movie version of which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month. For fans looking for something a bit creepier, check out Guillermo del Toro’s spell-binding and phantasmagorical fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth, or the suspenseful horror flick Paranormal Activity.
Things slow down for the rest of the month, but you’ll still have a few new film additions to look forward to, including 2005’s Keira Knightley-led Pride & Prejudice and the dark drama Hannibal. Then July 26 brings us a lineup of campy ‘50s and ‘60s minor classics before the month wraps up with the second installment of Legally Blonde. And small-screen aficionados can look forward to new episodes of two Starz original series, The Rook and Sweetbitter, with the former continuing its first season on July 7 and the latter starting its second on July 14.
But with the good comes the bad. Starz will be saying goodbye to just as many films and TV series, starting with the 2009 Disney princess movie The Princess and the Frog. We’ll be saying goodbye to a slew of other shows and series, including the beloved Western classic The Far Country, the sci-fi thriller Children of Men and one of the greatest horror movies in history, Rosemary’s Baby. We’ll also be losing some James Bond classics, including the Roger Moore-led staple For Your Eyes Only and Sean Connery’s brilliant trademark Goldfinger. More recent films including Spider-Man: Homecoming will also be heading out the backdoor, as well as all of the Jaws films and a bunch of movies about leprechauns? Good riddance on that last count, quite frankly.
