Watch the Trailer for Colin Trevorrow’s New Indie Drama/Thriller The Book of Henry

A trailer for the new indie film from Colin Trevorrow, The Book of Henry, has just been released, and it’s got an incredible cast. This is a return to indie filmmaking for Trevorrow after his first feature debut, Safety Not Guaranteed, earned him the director’s chair for Jurassic World and the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.

The Book of Henry follows single mother Susan, who is raising two sons while working in a diner. Henry, her oldest, is a child genius who is overseeing her financial situation at the age of 11. Things seems all plucky and indie, until there’s an odd tonal shift in the middle of the trailer, where their next-door neighbor is supposedly abusing his step-daughter. Henry decides that he has to do something about it, which leads him to write a book of instructions that clearly lay out his plans for his mother. He says in the trailer, “I’d hoped to do it all myself, but that’s not an option.” Why that isn’t an option isn’t abundantly clear, but we’re assuming all will be revealed.

While we’re not exactly sure what this film wants to be, it does boast an incredibly stellar cast. Naomie Watts plays Susan, while Jaeden Lieberher and Jacob Tremblay are playing her sons Henry and Peter, respectively. Honestly, those kids were destined to play brothers. It also stars Dean Norris, Lee Pace, Sarah Silverman, Bobby Moynihan and Maddie Ziegler (y’know, Abby’s favorite girl from Dance Moms).

The Book of Henry comes to theaters on June 16. Check out the trailer above.
