Back in 2003, Jack Black debuted as the delightfully doomed Dewey, a wannabe rockstar turned substitute teacher who corrals students into forming a band, in School of Rock. From that moment on, it was clear he knew how to entertain children (not to mention all those times he hosted Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards). This fall, he’s starring in another youth-oriented film, The House with a Clock in Its Walls. But this time, instead of fanning the musical fire in the hearts of young headbangers, he’s playing a mysterious warlock by the name of Jonathan Barnavelt. There’s a new trailer for said fantastical movie out now, and you can watch it below.
Based on John Bellairs’ children’s book of the same name, The House with a Clock in Its Walls follows a young orphan named Lewis Barnavelt (Owen Vaccaro) as he accompanies his wizarding uncle (Black) on a journey to find a magical clock that harbors the power to end the world. They run into some power-hungry bad guys along the way, but thankfully Mrs. Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett) tags along to help the two Barnavelts ward off evil rotting pumpkins and unlock the mysteries of the coveted timepiece. The movie also co-stars Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp and Renée Elise Goldsberry. The House with a Clock in Its Walls is in theaters Sept. 21.
Again, you can watch the new The House with a Clock in Its Walls trailer below and revisit a previous trailer here while you’re at it. Black’s rollicking side hustle of a band Tenacious D—which, unlike his new movie, is not at all kid-friendly—is also going on a tour this fall. Find those dates right here.
