Robert Pattinson, Lily-Rose Depp, More Join Timothée Chalamet in Netflix’s The King

As shooting for the Timothée Chalamet-led Netflix feature The King begins in the U.K. this week, the film has rounded out its cast with Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelsohn, Sean Harris and Lily-Rose Depp, Netflix announced Thursday.

The period drama based on the Shakespearean classics follows a young disgraced prince, Henry V (Chalamet), as he inherits the crown of England while the country is at war with France. Guided by his confidante Falstaff, played by Joel Edgerton, who is a co-writer and producer on the project, the prince must learn what it takes to be king. Director David Michôd of War Machine and Animal Kingdom, no stranger to Netflix, helms the film.

Chalamet and Edgerton are now joined by Pattinson, who will portray a French prince known only as The Dauphin, alongside Depp as French princess Catherine. Mendhelson will play King Henry IV and Harris will play an unspecified character named William. Tom Glynn-Carney of Dunkirk and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie of Leave No Trace will also feature in the drama, portraying Hotspur and Philippa, respectively.

Now oozing with potential from a more-than-impressive cast, with Chalamet fresh off an Oscar nod for Call Me By Your Name and Pattinson giving one of our favorite performances of last year in Good Time, filming for The King begins tomorrow, June 1. The film is set for a 2019 release.
