Watch Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka Fight for Their Lives in Netflix’s The Silence Trailer

A new trailer has arrived for the forthcoming Netflix horror film The Silence, starring Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka.

Based on the novel of the same name by Tim Lebbon, the film follows 16-year-old Ally Andrews (Shipka), who lost her hearing when she was 13. She and her family must escape from horrifying creatures that threaten to take over the world by hunting their prey using sound (turning that world, one might say, into a quiet place). As they attempt to seek refuge, they encounter a sinister cult that intends to exploit the heightened senses Ally has developed as a result of her hearing loss.

The Silence was directed by John R. Leonetti, whose past work in the horror genre has included Annabelle, which he helmed, and The Conjuring and Insidious, on which he served as director of photography. The Silence’s script was written by Carey Van Dyke and Shane Van Dyke.

Shipka is best known for her starring role in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and for playing Sally Draper in AMC’s Mad Men. Tucci is an Emmy award-winning actor known for his roles in the Hunger Games series, The Devil Wears Prada and The Lovely Bones, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. (He’s also a fan-casting favorite in various theoretical Twitter films, a fact you can bet your bottom dollar wasn’t lost on Netflix.) The Silence also stars Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf.

Netflix’s last big foray into the horror genre with its original content was the smash hit Bird Box, which came out at the end of last year. It featured a similar premise in which Sandra Bullock’s character and her kids could not remove their blindfolds for fear of mysterious forces, the sight of which compels one to commit suicide.

The Silence arrives on Netflix on Wednesday, April 10. Watch the full trailer belowc and find out what else is headed to Netflix next month here.
