The Insane New Trailer for The Void Will Scare You Senseless

Last month, a nasty little teaser for Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski’s The Void dropped, foretelling a John Carpenter-esque descent into practical effects-driven grotesquery. Now, a full-on theatrical trailer has debuted, reinforcing the above impression while freaking us out more than ever with a ton of new footage.

Honestly, trailers don’t get much more horrific than this. People are burned alive, skewered and attacked by tentacled things, and the accompanying music in the trailer’s final moments sounds quite literally like screaming.

In addition to scaring us senseless, Screen Media has also provided a synopsis for the film:

When police officer Carter discovers a blood-soaked man limping down a deserted road, he rushes him to a local hospital with a bare bones, night shift staff. As cloaked, cult-like figures surround the building, the patients and staff inside start to turn ravenously insane. Trying to protect the survivors, Carter leads them into the depths of the hospital where they discover a gateway to immense evil.

An added bonus for Carpenter fans will likely lie in the film’s set-up, which is an obvious nod to Assault on Precinct 13 and that film’s plot of a ragtag group of characters who barricade themselves in a tight space when they’re besieged by an army of faceless assailants. The eldritch qualities and implied gateway to another dimension also seem to be evoking the Lovecraft mythos and perhaps the films of Lucio Fulci and Stuart Gordon.

If you dare, check out the full trailer above, and catch the film when it hits U.S. theaters and VOD on April 7.
