Alison Brown – Stolen Moments

Bluegrass, jazz, newgrass, Celtic, country: regardless of what she’s playing, Alison Brown displays a gift for melody, a gift most often expressed on the banjo. She brings all these aspects of her searching music spirit together in the 11 tracks here. Top cuts include Celtic-tinged instrumental “Carrow keel”; trad piece “One Morning in May,” on which Brown picks up her guitar to collaborate with John Doyle, both supporting the graceful lead vocals of Andrea Zonn; and a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel” featuring Beth Nielsen Chapman on lead vocals. The Indigo Girls, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kenny Malone and Stuart Duncan also sit in.
