Melbourne’s Amyl and The Sniffers are one of the most buzzed-about punk bands to emerge from Australia this year, and their self-titled debut LP is arriving in time with the hype this Friday, May 24, on ATO Records. The third and final single from the album, “Gacked on Anger,” is out today (May 20). Give it a listen below.

Following a well-received run at this year’s South By Southwest—they’re still a young band, but their live shows are already renowned—Amyl and The Sniffers announced their forthcoming debut album and a summer tour spanning the eastern U.S. Frontwoman Amy Taylor strikes a near-perfect balance between the rage of vintage punk and the heat of classic rock, and while those two sounds are familiar, her voice is singular—especially in 2019. Few bands are out there channelling their anger in such a focused, searing manner.

The Sniffers’ discontent takes a sturdy shape again on “Gacked on Anger,” a gust of rage that doesn’t blow in one direction in particular, but rather all over the place. There’s a lot to be mad about these days. Taylor and the gang aren’t exclusive with their targets.

Among those subjects on “Gacked on Anger,” which gets its points across in less than two minutes, is money and how it controls us, as Taylor acknowledges in a statement:

Gacked on Anger is roughly about being so angry that it feels like [you’re] gacked—gacked means like fucked on drugs—high. The lyrics “stressed on tick because I’m gacked on anger”—tick is a round about way of saying debt/loan. The song lyrics are about money and class and my experiences with that, and the weird way my mind tries to wrap around the idea of having money/not having money/being in debt/getting paid or not paid as a musician. It’s also about the rat race/pleasure/shame/stress of money and the power that it has on day to day life, and the power of class to keep us too busy and too dumb to help other people, or make any kind of change in the “system.” We keep on working really hard for peanuts. I’ve been lucky in comparison and I’m grateful but in reality shit’s pretty fucked sometimes, and there’s lots to be angry about.
