Watch Angelo De Augustine Perform Songs from Swim Inside the Moon on This Day in 2017

On this day in 2017, Los Angeles singer/songwriter Angelo De Augustine stopped by the Paste Studio in Manhattan to perform songs from his second album Swim Inside the Moon. His second album came out on Sufjan Stevens’ label Asthmatic Kitty Records, and it followed his 2014 debut Spirals of Silence.

During the session, De Augustine talked about the process of recording the album in his bathroom in California with just a reel-to-reel tape recorder and one microphone, which was sitting on the tub and pointed away from him to pick up the reverberations from his voice and guitar. De Augustine performed three songs from the album: “Crazy, Stoned, and Gone,” “Fade” and “Haze.” Each cut is marked by his crushing falsetto and fingerpicked acoustic guitar, and his unembellished sound is just as satisfying and beautiful as a full orchestra.

De Augustine released his latest album Tomb, also on Stevens’ Asthmatic Kitty earlier this year. Paste wrote of the album, “Tomb is more direct than anything De Augustine’s released prior, while remaining as nostalgic and longing as ever.”
