Arcade Fire Debuted New Music at a Secret Show This Weekend

Music News Arcade Fire

It seems Arcade Fire are trying out some new material live as they held a secret show in New Orleans over the weekend. The performance was ahead of the band’s headlining set at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival.

According to The Times-Picayune, on Saturday, Oct. 29, the band played a show to 175 fans in a New Orleans film studio, Secondline Stages. Word got around about the show through friends of the band and friends of friends. Arcade Fire played 14 songs, some new and some old, including the Ghostbusters theme, apparently.

The band’s Will Butler said in his Reddit AMA earlier this year that Arcade Fire were aiming for a spring 2017 release of their next album, though he was tentative about locking down a date, but clearly they’re making progress on the new batch of songs. Per Stereogum, the new material was described as “dynamic, danceable rock” with “a sharp focus on heavy topics but percussive-heavy beats and a flavor of disco.”

Unfortunately, cell phones weren’t allowed into the venue where the band played, so don’t expect to see video of the new songs anytime soon.
