Arctic Monkeys Smash Record for Vinyl Sales in First Week

Arctic Monkeys’ new album, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, has already extended the band’s streak of No. 1 albums on the UK Charts, following 2006’s Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, 2007’s Favourite Worst Nightmare, 2009’s Humbug, 2011’s Suck It and See, and 2013’s AM. In its first week of release, the band’s sixth album sold a combined 86,000 copies across all formats, including physical, digital and streaming, according to Official Charts.

More interesting was its smashing debut in the physical realm. According to Official Charts Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino has moved 24,500 units on vinyl, making it the fastest-selling vinyl record of the past 25 years by far. That honor had belonged to Liam Gallagher, whose solo debut As You Were sold 16,000 vinyl units upon its release in October 2017.
