Beach Bunny Explore Puppy Love on New Single “Cloud 9”

Chicago indie rockers Beach Bunny are gearing up to release their debut LP, Honeymoon, on Mom+Pop Records this Valentine’s Day after a steady stream of EPs since 2016. They’ve put out three songs from the album so far, including “Dream Boy,” “Ms. California” and now “Cloud 9.”

“Cloud 9” chronicles the saccharine sentiments that often surround first loves—and what we learn about ourselves from experiencing these overwhelming feelings.

“I don’t wanna seem the way I do,” sings frontwoman Lili Trifilio in the first verse of the song. “But I’m confident when I’m with you.”

Beach Bunny have long tapped into the complex emotions of youth, with EPs Pool Party (2016), Crybaby (2017) and Prom Queen (2018). The fascination with the navigation of young adulthood will continue to have a thematic stronghold on the forthcoming LP.

“I sought out to write a true, gushy, genuine love song when creating ‘Cloud 9,’” said Trifilio in a statement. “At the time I was at a questionable point in my relationship and I was reflecting on the last few years and how despite the ups and downs, love held us together.”

The accompanying music video, animated by Margaret Bialis, incorporates an aura of sweetness, complete with a wide-eyed, pink-haired protagonist, her tall, dark and handsome crush, and a colony of sentient snails a la Gary from SpongeBob.

Beach Bunny have a full schedule after the apt Valentine’s Day release of Honeymoon, embarking on a cross-country tour that includes a ton of already sold-out gigs and a Coachella performance, as well as a galavant through Europe.
