In the year 2019, Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst covered Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s Oscar-winning song “Shallow” from the film A Star is Born at their Better Oblivion Community Center show in Brooklyn on Monday.
Bridgers previously released said prophecy into the universe in February with a tweet:
Bridgers and Oberst were accompanied by Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who contributes slide guitar to their rendition. Oberst does his best Jackson Maine, at one point tweaking the lyric “and in the bad times I fear myself” in a cheeky nod to the fate of Cooper’s character. Bridgers’ take on the Gaga part, however, is no joke whatsoever.
So far on their inaugural tour as Better Oblivion Community Center, the indie duo have covered The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait,” The Killers’ “Human” and Death Cab For Cutie’s “Title And Registration.”
