The sustained boom time for players and fans of American Primitive Guitar music has been something to behold. It’s progenitors seem to multiplying exponentially, as do the number of labels willing to disseminate their finger-picked wonders to the globe.

Chicago imprint Drag City has been in this game for a while now, and they’ve turned up another gem of subdued beauty and instrumental prowess with the recent release of http://www.dragcity.com/products/spiderbeetlebee, a duo album from guitarists Bill MacKay and Ryley Walker.

The former is a versatile and striving player who has collaborated with Haley Fohr (aka Circuit Des Yeux) and Tortoise member Doug McCombs among many others, while the latter is best know for his singer-songwriter material. By combining forces, Walker and MacKay do nothing less than dazzle with interlocking melodies and modes that can carry your spirit away or stir up long dormant memories.

These two gents and Drag City are kind enough to share with us a new video for the song “Stretching My Dollar In Plano,” one of the highlights of their new LP. Directed by Marc Riordan, it’s the perfect visual accompaniment for this tune with its unhurried imagery and understated beauty.
