Here at Paste Magazine, we love a good indie power pop single. Therefore, we are beyond excited to offer the premiere of unsigned Boston band Blackout Balter’s debut single “Heavy Hand.” With a jangly melody and a catchy hook, this is the best of all the great elements of pop rock packed into one three-minute package.
“Heavy Hand” was recorded in the same studio which The Killers recorded their recent LP Battle Born. In fact, this was made possible by The Killers’ Dave Keuning himself, who first heard of Blackout Balter their frontman Phil Cohen handed him a demo. Keuning was so impressed with the group’s sound that he invited the group to record in the studio, even offering to guest on parts of the EP, including this track.
Twist and Bend will be released on July 8th. “Heavy Hand” should be able to tide over the excitement of most indie pop fans until then and get everybody thrilled for Blackout Balter’s debut. Without a doubt, “Heavy Hand” is one of the catchiest debut singles from this year, and therefore, we cannot wait to hear the full five song collection.
