Blake Mills Announces New Album, Look

Grammy-winning composer, producer, guitarist, songwriter and all-around music-industry veteran Blake Mills has announced that his forthcoming instrumental album Look, described in a press release as a “document of Mills’ immersion into the world of vintage guitar synthesizers,” will be released on Nov. 30 through New Deal Records.

Mills is the consummate musician’s musician. The two-time Producer Of The Year nominee has toured with Band of Horses, Cass McCombs and Julian Casablancas, and been a session player for just as long, performing with the likes of Norah Jones, Weezer and Lana Del Rey. Look finds Mills honing on the minutiae of his musical world as he dives into completely new textures and tonalities.

“The music on Look was not created with the intention of ever being heard,” Mills said in a statement. “In the spring of 2017 I discovered a small collection of vintage guitar synthesizers that Roland made at the end of the 1970’s. These machines were totally unfamiliar to me but immediately intuitive and inspiring. Since they rarely produce the same results twice, my process of learning how to play these instruments was through recording them … Look is a document of that experience.”

Album preorders are available here. Check out Mills’ 2010 Daytrotter Session below.
