With today’s mellow denouement schedule of slow-burn pop (The Weeknd, Lorde on her perpetual summer festival headlining tour), Saturday offered Bonnaroo’s most energetic 2017 entry. And whatever you may say about The Red Hot Chili Peppers and their untreatable Californiaphilia, dudes know how to rock out—they breezed through their discography and covering The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog” under a full moon so bright it looked fictional. The rest of the day offered kinetic sets from Chance the Rapper, Tegan and Sara, Lucy Dacus and Flume, who started his set under a semi-transparent, black-light tarp best described as sea anemones exploding into psychedelic abstraction. Festival photographer veteran Sarah Hess is back with another glorious gallery of the day’s shenanigans; check out her coverage of days one and two, and come back tomorrow for our last photos from Bonnaroo 2017.
