Watch Brett Dennen Play a Haunting “Strawberry Road” at Paste

Two years ago, raven-haired American folk singer Brett Dennen released his warmest and most intimate album to date, Por Favor. Scraping down to the essence of his music and pushing his confessional tenor to the fore, Dennen offered unadorned songs about stormy relationships and their aftermath, usually with one eye on the silver lining. On May 17, 2016, four days before the album came out, Dennen brought his guitar to the Paste Studio to play spartan renditions of three standouts: “Cassidy,” “I’ll Be on Your Side” and “Strawberry Road,” the latter of which combats loneliness with doses of Jerry Garcia.
