Watch Broken Social Scene Perform Two New Songs on The Strombo Show

Toronto indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene recently debuted two new songs in a wildly fun set on Canadian radio host George Stroumboulopoulos’s The Strombo Show. The group performed the songs “Can’t Find My Heart” and “1972” for the first time, along with a handful of older cuts and covers, with a rotating cast of up to 10 members at a time.

The set was performed in the House of Strombo, an intimate venue that appears to be Stroumboulopoulos’s actual living room. It has been used to host recorded performances from a wide array of artists, including John Prine, Courtney Barnett and Mac DeMarco.

In addition to their new material, Broken Social Scene performed “I’ll Bring the Sun,” a solo song by occasional member Jason Collett, as well as “TBT” from current member Ariel Engle’s solo project La Force. They even brought out Leslie Feist towards the end to sing the Broken Social Scene anthem “Lover’s Spit.” Finally, during closer “Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day),” the band broke into a spontaneous cover of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart.” What more could you ask for, really?

Broken Social Scene’s last full-length was 2017’s Hug of Thunder, which came out to widespread acclaim after a seven-year hiatus. They also released an infectious new single titled “Old Dead Young” in September 2018. Judging from this performance, it appears the turnaround for the group’s next album might be a whole lot shorter than the last.
