BBC to Air New Charli XCX Documentary Next Month

Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli XCX, is the subject of a new BBC World Service radio documentary that will air in September.

The show, titled In The Studio: Charli XCX, will follow the “Boom Clap” singer on her most recent tour, Pop 2, and on Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour, for which Charli XCX was the opener.

BBC’s Kate Mossman joins Charli in the studio and behind the scenes at her London performances. In the segment, Mossman and Aitchison discuss Charli XCX’s songwriting, recording and performing process, as well as the good and the bad that comes with fame.

According to a BBC press release, the documentary “explores Charli XCX’s duality as both a songwriter and a performer with exclusive behind-the-scenes access.”

It continues: “We hear Charli discuss her favorite part of her studio process and what it means to her. She speaks honestly and articulately about how she combats loneliness on the road and what parts of her work are her least favorite.”

The show will mark the continuance of Charli’s ongoing relationship with the BBC. She also directed a documentary about gender equality, The F Word and Me, which premiered on BBC Three in 2015.

Charli’s most recent release, Pop 2, dropped last December and featured contributions from A.G. Cook, SOPHIE, Mykki Blanco, Carly Rae Jepsen and more. The global pop star has released a series of singles throughout the summer, her most recent being “Girls Night Out.”

In The Studio: Charli XCX airs on the BBC World Service on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 a.m. BST (6:30 a.m. EST).
