Chris Stapleton’s From A Room: Volume 2 Gets Release Date

The capital “A” in From A Room alludes to Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, where Chris Stapleton and Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson) recorded Stapleton’s new album last winter. The month of May saw the release of From A Room: Volume 1, and Stapleton has just announced that Volume 2 will hit the digital airwaves on Dec. 1.

Stapleton broke the news during the first of two sold-out shows at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena last Friday, the stage that CMT says “ … cemented his status as one of music’s greatest talents to emerge from the current decade.” Calling Nashville Stapleton’s hometown, however, isn’t entirely correct: He was born in Kentucky, to a family of coal miners. His 2015 debut Traveller was inspired by his father’s death, and the road trip he took with his wife in a 1979 Jeep Cherokee halfway across the country back to Nashville. Stapleton was in a musical quandary and decided to seek out Cobb.

Another piece of history: Stapleton had toured RCA Studio B at age 7 with his father. Nearly 30 years and some CMA and ACM awards later, he’s recorded two albums in Studio A. Just this year, he’s been nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year at the CMA Awards, which are set to air live on Nov. 8. Volume 1 single “Broken Halos,” managed a nice metaphor for both success and failure: “Don’t go looking for the reasons / Don’t go asking Jesus why / We’re not meant to know the answers / They belong to the by and by.”

The tracklist and album art for From A Room: Volume 2, an interview with Stapleton from the Paste Cloud and Stapleton’s tour dates are included below, and you can preorder the album here. Look for Stapleton, additionally, as part of the “All In For The Gambler: Kenny Rogers Farewell Concert” on Oct. 25 and on PBS’ Austin City Limits program later this month.
