Philadelphia R&B artist and spoken-word poet Christinna O has released her debut EP Girl in Passing today (July 15), including the standout track “Don’t That Make You Mad.” Girl in Passing’s arrival follows the release of previous singles “Shelter” and “Lay it Down,” both of which are featured on this nine-track release.
“Don’t That Make You Mad” laughs in the face of those who eagerly await another’s downfall. Christinna’s plush R&B vocal harmonies cushion the blows from the hostile world around her. “Don’t you miss your own dream / tripping over me?” asks Christinna over funky guitar strums. Christinna’s refined vocals are effortlessly vivacious, and they contain beguiling glimmers and a finesse you wouldn’t expect from a 19-year-old.
“‘Girl in Passing’ refers to my journey in/into my personal womanhood/identity and the examination of what there is to be given, taken and felt in journey of self,” Christinna says of the EP. “The complexity of the journey is revealed in this introspective split project. ‘Girl in Passing’ is to acknowledge that as individuals we are all passing through—and we carry everything as we pass each other.”
