If you’re a music fan, chances are you’ve spent this week thinking about David Bowie. The iconic artist would’ve been 73 on Wednesday, and today (Jan. 10) is the fourth anniversary of his unexpected death in 2016.

On Thursday, world-class cellist Maya Beiser stopped by the Paste Studio in New York City for a very special Bowie-adjacent performance. Beiser brought with her a string quartet and pianist, all of whom contributed to covers of three Bowie classics: “Lazarus,” “Ziggy Stardust” and “Life on Mars.” Today marks Beiser’s release of Bowie Cello Symphonic: Blackstar, a reimagining of Bowie’s last album, 2016’s Blackstar, track-by-track. The album features compositions performed by a 30-piece orchestra. This music is a challenging listen for Bowie fans, yet that makes it all the more beautiful. Let yourself experience Bowie in a whole new way, and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Watch Beiser and company’s stunning Paste Studio session below. While you’re at it, hear Bowie perform his classic “Heroes,” along with a few The Who and Velvet Underground covers, during a 1983 show, below via the Paste vault.
