David Byrne Extends American Utopia World Tour

David Byrne, the eccentric leader of the 1970s new-wave institution Talking Heads, has just announced the extension of his current world tour celebrating the release of his forthcoming solo album, American Utopia. The added dates begin Jul. 31 at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston, Mass. following his appearance in New Jersey for the XPoNential Music Festival.

The tour is set to feature songs from Byrne’s newest album, out March 9 via Todomundo/Nonesuch Records, with music from his days with Talking Heads. Byrne will be accompanied on stage by a twelve-piece band in a highly choreographed performance, which the artist calls “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense.”

On Twitter, Byrne gave us a glimpse into what the stage for such a show could look like. In between an image of an empty blue stage, Byrne again ties the current world tour to Stop Making Sense: “Here, it is ‘allow everyone to be mobile on an empty stage’ and imagine what that allows,” he tweeted in reference to the show.

Pre-sale access for Byrne’s newly announced European headline shows is available here to those who register before 12 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Jan. 17. All online ticket purchases in the U.S. come with a CD copy of the new album.
