Watch Deerhunter Live-Debut Five New Songs off Their Forthcoming Album at Dutch Festival

Deerhunter announced in May (via their label 4AD) that they had begun work on a new album. The band has yet to set a release date for Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?, the working title for the album, their first since 2015’s Fading Frontier.

The band has also yet to officially release a single from the LP, but did announce in March that they’d be going on tour, and debuting new songs and a new band lineup. Well, Bradford Cox and company are people of their word and have been playing songs from the forthcoming album since kicking off their tour in May, as CoS points out.

Now, professional footage from their set at Best Kept Secret Festival in the Netherlands has surfaced and it features the live debuts of five new songs. The band shared “Detournement,” “Futurism,” “What Happens to People,” “Death in Midsummer” and “No One’s Sleeping” during their June 8 performance. Listen to them below.

Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? was produced by Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon. Cox says the themes are “very informed by the environment” of Marfa, Texas, where the band recorded the album.

Watch Deerhunter perform “Detournement” at 5:35, “Futurism,” “What Happens to People” and “Death in Midsummer” at 12:00, and “No One’s Sleeping” at 33:42. Further down, catch a 2009 Deerhunter set from the Paste archives.
