In October 2013, Forbe’s contributor Bobby Owsinski penned The Demise of the Electric Guitar in Music, observing that synthesizers and drum machines occupied more sonic real estate then the classic axe. Two months earlier, Nashville sextet Diarrhea Planet had already issued a scathing counterargument in I’m Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, a 4-guitar symphony of distortion and thick, addictive rock ‘n’ roll. Three years later, DP has only amplified their promise of pure six-string elation through June’s Turn to Gold and their batshit fun live shows. Especially their batshit fun live shows.

Paste ranked Diarrhea Planet as one of its favorite live bands a couple years ago, and that designation hasn’t changed much. Just take the group’s layover at The Music Hall of Williamsburg last week, in which a maelstrom of crowdsurfers, tremelos and happiness washed over the East River venue. Don’t believe us? Check out photographer Cortney Armitage’s gallery charting the revelry and fu manchus.
