Die Antwoord DJ Leon Botha: 1985-2011

South African DJ Leon Botha died Sunday from complications related to a genetic disease called progeria.

Botha is best known for his work as DJ Hi-Tek with South African hip-hop collaborative Die Antwoord.

The Cape Town artist passed away just a day after his 26th birthday, but he was said to be one of the oldest living survivors of his condition.

Progeria is an extremely rare genetic disease (one in eight million births), where the aging process is rapidly accelerated. Most people with the condition only live into their late teens or early 20s.

Die Antwoord tweeted a message to Botha: “REST IN PEACE LITTLE BUDDHA.”
