L.A.-based five-piece Draag make music that’s the perfect soundtrack for insomniacs: a spellbinding mixture of shoegaze, new wave, pop and grunge that sounds the way it feels to amble through a haze in the wake of sleepless night after sleepless night. Led by songwriter and vocalist Adrian Acosta, who has training as a mariachi singer, Draag’s members boast musical backgrounds ranging from classical and jazz to DIY punk. Together, they sound out of a different era—maybe even a different planet. Their newest track, “Ghost Leak,” sounds especially otherworldly.
Draag released their debut EP, Nontoxic Process, last year. “Ghost Leak” is the first cut to be released off Clara Luz, their sophomore EP arriving Feb. 21, 2020. Gauzy and claustrophobic, it’s layered with obscure, murmured harmonies, screeching guitars, floaty synths and drum machines. “‘Ghost Leak’ is the feeling of being completely invisible and inconsequential,” says vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist Jessica Huang. “It is also a message to someone we lost—to let them know they weren’t invisible.” The track’s visual finds her playing a spectral presence across Los Angeles.
