Watch Father John Misty Perform “Mr. Tillman” with The NYC Gay Men’s Chorus on The Tonight Show

Father John Misty performed “Mr. Tillman,” from his forthcoming album, God’s Favorite Customer, on Monday night’s episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Misty’s new album will be out on June 1 via Sub Pop and Bella Union, and he’s already unveiled three new singles, “Mr. Tillman,” “Just Dumb Enough to Try” and “Disappointing Diamonds are the Rarest of Them All.” His new album follows his 2017 LP, Pure Comedy, which Paste numbered among 2017’s best albums. The new album was written and produced by Misty, and recorded with Jonathan Rado, Dave Cerminara and Trevor Spencer.

Misty’s Fallon performance of “Mr. Tillman” featured vocal harmonies and occasional whistling from The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. The dapper, shades- and suit-wearing Misty gave an impassioned performance of the track, in which the lyrics follow Tillman as he humorously reassures a hotel employee of his mental state (“Oh baby, don’t be alarmed this is just my vibe”).

Tillman recently unveiled an extensive world tour in support of his new album. Tillman will make stops in the U.K., Europe and North American cities like Seattle, New York, Raleigh, Pittsburgh, Toronto, San Francisco, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Vancouver, Athens, New Orleans and Austin. Support for his upcoming shows varies from show to show and includes King Tuff, Lucy Dacus, TV on the Radio, Jenny Lewis, Blitzen Trapper, Gillian Welch, Bully, David Beeman and Bedouine.
