Lemmy’s Favorite West Hollywood Bar Is Erecting A Life-Size Statue Of Him

Music News Hollywood

It seems like a lifetime ago already, but Motörhead bassist and frontman Lemmy Kilmeister’s December death shook the metal community. Now, he’ll be memorialized in the most Lemmy way possible: with a life-size statue outside the Rainbow Bar and Grill, his favorite spot on the Sunset Strip.

Talk of this began just days after Lemmy lost his battle with cancer, and the Rainbow was always front and center—that’s where a memorial service to the musician was held on Jan. 9, with so many people in attendance that the rest of the Sunset Strip agreed to host overflow traffic. Quickly, an online petition and accompanying crowdfunding campaign got underway. Today, the crowdfunder sits at $16,000, about 80% of the way to its goal, which is to cover the material costs of the bronze statue. Tom Moore, the LA artist charged with crafting it, has said he won’t charge for labor.
