Hootie & the Blowfish – Looking For Lucky

Burger King’s rhinestone cowboy looking for a lucky break

Once a powerbroker trafficking in arena-filling, frat-friendly radio rock, Hootie & The Blow?sh’s Darius Rucker has settled into a life of independent labels and stunt casting in Burger King commercials. With aspirations for mainstream success dialed down, Rucker’s band returns quietly with Looking For Lucky, a set of earnest, so-so anthems that finds Hootie & The Blow?sh making grand statements about war (“The Killing Stone”) and taking a bold stance against hatred (“One Love”). Rucker and company have always been overly maligned, but the amiably plodding Looking For Lucky mostly eschews the bright hooks and easy charms of its best-selling predecessors.
