There are a few things we know about Houndmouth. We know they can sing the hell out of an old Texas country cover. We know they like thrift shopping. Most importantly, we know they like to get weird. So when we decided to roll through their home turf this weekend for Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky, there was little doubt that we’d be hitting up the band to catch up about their latest adventures and get a glimpse of where they came from. They did us one better, though: Since they were sharing the bill Friday with friends St. Paul and the Broken Bones, the Houndmouth gang gave us a little break and took the reins on an interview with the beloved Alabama boys in the festival’s cozy Bourbon Lodge.
There was plenty to talk about—St. Paul & the the Broken Bones did just finish a stint of opening dates for The Rolling Stones, after all—but in keeping with most experiences during festival season, somehow the conversation spiraled into bourbon-fueled talk of travel mishaps and port-a-potties.
