Hovvdy Share Wistful Video for “Cranberry,” Their Forthcoming Album’s Title Track

Hovvdy make gentle and idyllic pop, the kind of tune you hear slipping out of an open window across a quiet cul-de-sac. It’s no coincidence that their latest music videos, released ahead of their second album, have been set in the suburbs, while the songs themselves are all hushed, heartfelt feeling, wandering through memories. The same is true of Cranberry’s title track.

Charlie Martin tells Noisey that “Cranberry,” released today, is about the desire to become a “better listener and, more generally, being willing to make changes in yourself to be a better person, friend, partner.” He notes that the duo’s new songs are more optimistic than the ones on their 2016 debut Taster, adding that he and Will Taylor “are both pretty hopeful people, I think.”

“Cranberry” exudes humble vulnerability and hope—a short, sweet oath to be better. “I’ma change for you and you deserve it,” Martin murmurs over tender acoustic guitars and a bit of barely perceptible organ. Previous advance tracks from the album include lovely lead single “Petal” and somber second single “Late”—all three have us looking forward to February.

Cranberry is due out on Feb. 9, 2018 via Double Double Whammy. Watch the “Cranberry” video below, and read the lyrics further down. You can preorder Hovvdy’s album here, and see the album art and tracklist right here.

“Cranberry” Lyrics:
Outside in the parking lot
I answered all your questions wrong
With trouble listening again
Could not recall where you began again
And i hate it
I’ma change for you and you deserve it
Outside in the parking lot
I answered all your questions wrong
With hard time paying attention
Could not remember where you been again
And i hate it
I’ma change for you and you deserve it
