Jenny Hval Sets Blood Bitch Release Date, Premieres Video for “Female Vampire”

Music News Jenny Hval

Norwegian experimental-pop singer Jenny Hval is releasing her newest album, Blood Bitch, on Sept. 30, and has announced a European and North American tour in support of the album to begin on July 15 in Chicago. Hval has also premiered a music video for the lead single off of Blood Bitch, titled “Female Vampire”, which you can watch below.

“The production behind her thumps, swells, and pitter-patters with the rhythm of a heartbeat that’s racing,” said Vulture of the new song. “It’s deeply sensual, but not obviously so. Nothing about Jenny Hval is ever obvious; she’s a master at putting you through rigorous, exciting work to see the world with her gaze.”

Described as Hval’s “most fictional yet most personal album”, the title Blood Bitch is a fairly literal manifestation of the inspiration behind the album, which is bloodshed—blood which “ties together the virgins, the whores, the mothers, the witches, the dreamers, and the lovers.” The singer is known well for her fascination with myth, the supernatural and the occult, all of which can be found in traces throughout the haunting LP and of course, in the video for “Female Vampire”.

The song can be streamed in full here, and Blood Bitch is available for pre-order here. Watch the “Female Vampire” video below, and if you can’t wait for the album to drop, try to catch Jenny Hval on tour, the full dates for which can be found below.
