Jessica Hernandez Announces Sophomore Album, Telephone/Telefono in Both English and Spanish

We’ve been waiting on a follow-up from Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas ever since the band’s 2014 debut Secret Evil earned high marks from Paste, and now it’s finally on the way. Telephone will arrive June 23 via Instant Records, with a unique twist: The album will be available in two different versions, in English and Spanish.

Hernandez, known for her powerful, soulful vocals, occasional green hair and R&B-inflected backing band, is the daughter of Cuban and Mexican immigrant parents, who settled in Detroit and opened a restaurant. The band grew out of this same background, practicing in the space above the restaurant and becoming a popular local act before taking their brand national. In recent years, songs from Secret Evil have appeared in several national ad campaigns, but Hernandez is almost certainly shooting to reach the next level with Telephone and Telefono.

The album is available for pre-order now at Pledge Music, which includes a short video of Hernandez discussing the new project. You can hear “Run Too Far” off the new album below, and the band’s most recent Daytrotter session below that.
