John Prine announced Tuesday that he will postpone eight summer North Americaann tour dates due to his upcoming heart surgery.
The legendary folk singer-songwriter and his record label posted the following message to his website, informing fans about his need for surgery and sharing ticket refund information:
With sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused, the Prine family and Oh Boy Records regretfully announce the postponement of the following John Prine Summer tour dates. We are currently working on rescheduling the affected dates and will share updated information as soon as possible—all original tickets will remain valid. Alternatively, refunds are available at original point of purchase.
In consultation with his doctors, John has been advised that he has an elevated risk for a stroke. He will have surgery this week to insert a stent which will remedy the issue. He looks forward to a full and speedy recovery.
Prine released his critically acclaimed latest album The Tree of Forgiveness in 2018 via Oh Boy Records, his independent record label.
He was also notably inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame by Bonnie Raitt last month in New York City, and will be the subject of a Sony Pictures Classics documentary. We included the 72-year-old singer-songwriter among the best acts we saw at Bonnaroo this year.
Ticket refunds for all eight affected shows will be available at the original point of purchase, and each concert will be rescheduled.
