Folk-country legend John Prine recently contributed to the Amazon original playlist “Love Me” with a playful rendition of one of Johnny Cash’s songs, “Ways of a Woman in Love.” Prine takes a delicate approach to the Cash-recorded, up-tempo version of the song, originally written by Charlie Rich and Bill Justis in 1958.

Directed and edited by Joshua Britt and Neilson Hubbard, the charming music video for Prine’s cover shows the artist’s playful side as a sad, box-faced character walks around his town all alone. The depressed box-headed protagonist, played by director Britt’s six-year-old son Colter, gives the video the same kind of childlike innocence that’s found in Prine’s cover.

Some of the musicians who also contributed to Amazon’s 50-song “Love Me” playlist include Dan Auerbach, Amanda Shires, Hurray For The Riff Raff and Eric Krasno Band, among others.

Earlier this month, Prine returned from his 13-year hiatus to share his most recent single, “Summer’s End,” the first single of his forthcoming Oh Boy Records’ release Tree of Forgiveness, due out April 13. Preorders for the album are available here.
