New Zealand’s Jordan Rakei is Ninja Tune’s latest signee and his new single, “Sorceress” is another step in the sensual soul repertoire he’s building. Rakei plays most of the instruments on the track’s decadent arrangement of atmospheric strings, rolling drums, woozing synths and sings fierce and tenderly ”…about how the ego can fully control the way you act and perceive life,” he says.
The multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer has already collaborated with the likes of Ta-Ku, Tom Misch, and FKJ; artists building a new electronic soul music subculture that’s engaging, appealing and tasteful. Rakei’s humble discography is a sexy rabbit hole to crawl through, especially his 2016 LP, Cloak.
