Leonard Cohen-Inspired Art Exhibit to Open at Montreal Museum

Le Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) will be opening Une brèche en toute Chose / A Crack In Everything, an exhibit honoring Leonard Cohen on Nov. 9, exactly one year after Cohen’s death. The event will incorporate 13 visual artists, seven filmmakers and 20 musicians from 10 countries in a series of concerts and events that will parallel the exhibition.

“When we came up with the idea for this exhibition, we went to seek the agreement of Leonard Cohen, who was thrilled with the project and the angle we were proposing,” says John Zeppetelli, Director and Chief Curator of the MAC. “Given his recent death, our exhibition has taken on a new meaning. It has also become a tribute to this global star. We have a great responsibility to the public and the approach adopted by the artists will definitely be sensitive to this aspect, to reflect both our gratitude and our respect for this Montréal artist.”

Those involved in the project include: artist Jenny Holzer, who will project Cohen’s poems and songs on one of Montréal’s most iconic architectural structures; Montréal filmmaker Karen Blake, who will create a video installation titled The Offerings that offers a look into Cohen’s creative process and how it related to the city; and musicians such as Arianne Moffatt, Jean Leloup and Moby, who recorded covers of Cohen’s songs.
